VALENTINO, Rudolph (1895-1926). Autograph Post Card Signed to His Sister. [Palm Springs, CA, Nov. 15, 1920]. RPPC postcard of a view of a mountainous scene in Palm Springs. Written in Italian. Addressed: "Signora Maria Gugliemi". Signed "Rodolfo". Approximately 3 1/2 x 5 1/2". Stamped with ink cancels. RARE POSTCARD TO HIS SISTER, ENTIRELY IN VALENTINO'S HAND; HE MENTIONS THE FILM THAT LAUNCHED HIM INTO SUPERSTARDOM. Valentino rarely wrote letters or other correspondence entirely in his hand. Translation: "I am in the desert to rest after having finished 'Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.' Write me soon." 

Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1921) was the film that launched Valentino's career into the stratosphere. It was the highest grossing film in that year, and is considered to be an early anti-war film. It also established Valentino as a "Latin Lover." Valentino was the biggest star of his day, and his fanbase experienced a kind of hysteria when he would make public appearances; his untimely death in 1926 sent thousands of fans into a frenzy resulted in riots and numerous suicide attempts.
