Cloth of volume I a bit darker green than the other three. FIRST EDITIONS OF THE FIRST FOUR VOLUMES - THE FIFTH VOLUME IS VIRTUALLY UNOBTAINABLE AS IT WAS QUICKLY WITHDRAWN BY THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT. 

These volumes are the definitive work on surveying India by contemporary and earlier cartographers. Some of the regions depicted include: the Himalayas, Tibet, sources of the Ganges and Gogra rivers, Bogle, Nepal, Assam, and more. These four volumes were produced over a long period of time, spanning the time before and after India's independence. 

Some wear, soiling, scuffing to bindings, corners a bit bumped, volumes I and II with inkstamp of the R. U. S. I. Library on the ffeps (no maps on these ffeps.), volumes III and IV with small bookshop plates (Luzac & Company of London) beneath the dates on the title-pages. Still, a fine set.
