HEMINGWAY, Ernest (1899-1961). Typescript for "The Capital of the World," a Short Story with a Bullfighting Theme. [N.p., 1936]. Approximately 11 x 8 1/2" on plain brown paper, rectos only. Together, 17 pages, all de-acidified. Includes 14 original carbon copy pages with a portion of the first page not typed at bottom, because the carbon paper was not properly placed - with an 18-word ink revision by Hemingway on p. 4, a 2-word pencilled insertion and some spelling corrections by Hemingway on the same page as well as other pencilled corrections by him throughout. And with 2 typed pages (p. 1 and p. 3) by Hemingway, plus one autograph manuscript page from an earlier draft of the story; the typed pages have numerous pencilled revisions and corrections by Hemingway (about 27 words in his hand and various markings). The autograph manuscript page consists of a 42-word pencilled insertion by Hemingway for the first typed page (providing some of the missing text on the first typed page). Offered with a later photocopied version of the corrected typewritten text (10 pages). Manuscript is chemised in silk-lined folding portfolio; the entire package is housed in a modern full blue morocco clamshell case with custom-designed multi-colored leathered onlay on front. The story first appeared in Esquire Magazine in June, 1936, under the title, "The Horns of the Bull." It was published under its new title, "The Capital of the World" in The Fifth Column and the First Forty-Nine Stories (1938). 

Some toning, edgewear with occasional chipping and soiling to pages, hand-typed page 1 is only the top 2/3 of the page and is mounted onto a later sheet of paper and with paperclip mark at upper left. Light rubbing to photocopy version. Still, a fine example in a superb case.
