“Korea ‘Para-Pup’ Mascot” Air Force Paratroopers with Dog Press Photographs. 1951. Group of two vintage press photographs documenting a U.S. Air Force paratrooper unit in Korea preparing their mascot dog, identified in the original caption as “Dozo,” for a jump using a specially rigged miniature parachute. One image (approx. 8 x 8 1/2") shows two uniformed paratroopers in jump gear at an aircraft doorway lowering the small dog outfitted with a harness; the second image (approx. 7 x 5") depicts the dog posed atop artillery shells, creating a striking juxtaposition of mascot and wartime matériel. Versos with Associated Press and Acme Newspictures stamps, caption slug dated April 2, 1951, and editorial markings. A compelling and unusual Korean War subject combining military life, airborne operations, and animal mascots. Largest 8 x 8 1/2".
Light wear, editorial handling marks, and toning consistent with press use.
