Order of Calanthe Banner. (O.O.C.). Circa 1890s. Hand painted silk with metallic trim and fringe on a metal and wood hanging rod. Inscribed ?Links of Friendship /F H & L / Court No. 36 / OOC / Lockland, Ohio." This was an African American women's fraternal organization established in Louisiana in 1883 as an auxiliary to the Knights of Pythias. ?F H & L" refer to the order's motto: Fidelity, Harmony, and Love. Verso inscribed ?Organized August 10, 1894." Paint loss and cracked in areas throughout. Silk with minor surface dirt and tearing. Overall good condition. Unrolled 44 x 30 ? x 2 ?".
